Total Number of people that can be accommodated:
Number of receivers required:

Purpose of the Calculator
This Calculator is to assist with the numerical requirements of receivers when provided in conjunction with a hearing augmentation system based on BCA 2016 D3.7

A hearing augmentation system is required where an inbuilt amplification system, other than one used for emergency warning is installed,
  • in a room in a Class 9b building; or
  • in an auditorium, conference room, meeting room or room for judicatory purposes; or
  • at any ticket office, teller’s booth, reception area or the like, where the public is screened from the service provider.
If the hearing augmentation is provided by means of an induction loop, it must be provided to 80% of the floor area or space served by the inbuilt amplification system.

If the hearing augmentation is provided by a system that requires use of receivers or like, it must be available to not less than 95% of the floor area or space served by the inbuilt amplification system. The number of speakers can be calculated by the above formula, based on the number of people that can be accommodated based on the floor area as listed under BCA 2016 Clause D1.13

Further information in regards to Hearing Augmentation can be found in AS 1428.5-2010 Communication for people who are deaf or hearing impaired.
